Silas Willard is a PBIS School-Positive Behaviors Interventions and Supports.
We are the Positively Awesome Wildcats or PAWS School for short. As such we focus upon three main “PAWS Rules.”
Be Respectful—treat others the way we would like to be treated
Be Responsible—pay attention in class, make wise choices, and when we make mistakes, admit that we made a mistake, and try not to make the same mistake again.
Be There and Be Ready—Come to school on time ready to do our best every day.
At the beginning of the year, staff put on skits which help teach and remind students of our PAWS rules. Throughout the year, students are rewarded with PAWS stickers highlighting these three rules and enter drawings to win many prizes from our weekly PAWS drawings. We have Respectful Restaurant during the year—a chance to be rewarded as we highlight respect—eating lunch with Mr. Shelly on the stage. We have other “Booster Activities” which highlight these main PAWS rules when many students are rewarded with large-group/school-wide fun activities—which this year included extra recess, popsicles, beach ball fun, sidewalk chalk, and staff-student games. In this way, students are reminded of our expected behaviors throughout the year.
